Meet Josh Sabourin—a healthy lifestyle entrepreneur and creator of SIBO Survivor. I first interviewed Josh back in 2017 and I wanted to bring him back again to talk specifically about another healing modality for IBS—hypnotherapy.
Josh, like many of us, struggled with digestive issues throughout his life. When he was in college, he had a number of digestive issues—gas/bloating, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, lack of energy, mood swings—but instead of giving up, Josh learned to treat and manage his SIBO.
With other SIBO sufferers in mind, he created SIBO Survivor, a site devoted to knowledge and products that can improve others’ quality of life. Josh is very open about the challenges many face when overcoming SIBO, but there are many things you can do to treat and manage SIBO and he teaches you how.
Hypnotherapy is often a taboo topic and for some people it’s what they’d call hocus pocus or woo-woo. The type of hypnotherapy were talking about, however, is medical-grade hypnotherapy, which is a guided form of therapy. With this form of therapy, a practitioner walks you through different meditations and imagery to get into your deeper emotions and subconscious mind. From there the practitioner is able to uncover things from your past or things you’ve been holding onto for a long time.
As Josh explains, “A lot of the research says that IBS is not all in your head, and I believe that as well. I believe it’s mostly a microbiome issue, but I do believe there is a psychological component to it from my experience. When you live with a chronic illness for a certain period of time, you start to reinforce habits and you start to reinforce different ways of thinking, whether it’s through panic, anxiety, stress or worry.”
When it comes to hypnotherapy for IBS, a lot of the calming techniques, the imagery and the different processes they take you through are specific to IBS.
