This is a wild time we’re experiencing right now, and I know it’s stirring up a lot of fear, anxiety, and questions about the unknown. We’re all feeling it, myself included. (And I avoid the news as much as possible!) It’s important to have ways to release fear while we also prepare for more time at home.
This virus has become the topic of all conversations as we hear of school closings, business closings, mandatory curfews, cancellations of most gatherings, and people being quarantined. We naturally go into survival mode because there is a threat present.
However, we must have tools and practices that will help to reframe our thoughts and maintain a healthy perspective on things. If we allow fear to take over, then we’re giving away our power to something that’s possibly more dangerous than the virus.
As stress and anxiety builds, your immune defenses weaken. That’s not ideal right now. We need to do what we can to boost our immune system and calm the anxiety.
Below are a few of my recommendations for preparing for more time at home and staying calm amidst the chaos.
With some areas of the world experiencing mandatory quarantines and other people choosing to self-quarantine, it’s important to have plenty of healthy food on hand. But don’t buy out the store, save some for others!

I love to diffuse lavender, wild orange, frankincense, Adaptiv, Balance, Console, and Serenity for their great calming properties.
Find a quiet space, sit down and close your eyes if only for 10 minutes. Consider counting your breath or saying a mantra like “I am relaxed” or “All is well”. Breathe in and out slowly and feel relaxation wash over you.
Get your thoughts out on paper. If you find yourself expressing a lot of negative thoughts, then consider starting a gratitude journal. Write down 3 things you’re grateful for each day.
Hippocrates said, “Healing begins with an aromatic bath and daily massage.” At night before bed enjoy a warm bath with essential oils like lavender or frankincense. Turn on some relaxing music and enjoy.
Create a daily prayer practice. Express thankfulness and gratitude and then pray for healing or the things on your heart.
It’s always a good idea to have some emergency first aid items on hand. I know things like rubbing alcohol are difficult to find right now, but do what you can and hopefully you won’t need it.
